Above our offices, using the extra space created by the vaulted ceilings, we have lofts used for reading, napping and nimble guests. There is plenty of space for a queen-sized bed, providing our guests aren't prone to sitting up abruptly in the middle of the night. The space is simple and cozy with natural clay plaster on the walls and ceiling and natural cork floors. Glow-in-the-dark stars stuck on the ceiling create the feeling of being outdoors after the lights are out.

Sleeping Loft

The photo below is taken from the bed. The skylight is operable from the loft for ventilation and a low shelf off the picture on the left provides space for luggage. Large pillows and a bean bag chair on the cork floor make a nice little reading area. A sturdy ladder swings down just below the jack-in-the-box for easy access and is stored suspended at loft height to open up the room below when the loft isn't being used.

Below, the photo on the left shows the ladder to the loft. When not in use it swings up, parallel to the floor at beam level. Below the loft are built in bookshelves and desks.
