Our fearless plumbers, A+S Plumbing, had a tight squeeze to get our septic tank set along the north side of our house. After digging the hole, the cement tank was delivered and a boom on the truck lifted it into place. This required care so it wouldn't damage the house.

After the tank wassettled into its hole, the clean-outs were placed on top. Lids on top of the clean-outs are the access for future maintenance.

In the east yard, trenches were dug for the drain field. These were filled with gravel then a special paper that keeps the dirt from above from migrating into the gravel. Perforated pipes run from the septic tank into these trenches and dispurse the liquid waste down into the ground.

Septic systems must meet certain standards for environmental safety. The drain field needs to be a specific size in relation to the size of the septic tank which is sized according to the number of bedrooms in the house. Not the most glamorous aspect of our home building project, but necessary!
