Outside Joseph adds water to the cement mixer. He'll
then fill a wheel barrow and push the cement into the
rooms where the plasterers are working. We've nailed
wood strips to the interior doorways for protection
in case the wheel barrow goes off course. We've removed
the doors too, and have put them out of harm's way. |

Here is the kitchen all lathed and ready for the scratch
coat. Before they lath, they'll tape felt to the floor
to protect it from the m-e-s-s!
Openings in the wall are for a spice cabinet and a
broom closet that will be next to the fridge. Outlets
on the wall are for under cabinet lights and the microwave.
The ceiling is going to be primed with a bonding solution,
then clay will be applied directly onto the OSB. |

Pat, my best friend, (normally a teacher, not a construction
worker believe it or not) is playing hookie today
so she decided to come over and "help" us.
Here she is taping plastic on the window...or so she
wants you to think. Glad she wore white pants and
sandals to "work".

The hall wall has the scratch coat. This coat
needs to cure for a few days before the brown coat
is applied. We'll need to keep it moist just like
we have with the base stucco coat outside because,
like the stucco coat, it's cement and cures with water.
Fortunately, since this is inside, the moisture doesn't
evaporate like it does with the sun and the wind outside.
It's difficult to drag hoses around and spray this
plaster without getting the floor wet that we're trying
to keep dry for the finish flooring. The bamboo needs
a dry floor before it's applied so it doesn't expand
with the moisture.

This shot is taken from the hall into the master bedroom...yikes,
this is a messy process! The floor is protected with
felt but there is wet cement from the plaster all over
the floor.
It feels very moist in the house now, and cool. Sound
is bouncing from the hard surfaces.
If you dare, come on in with me and I'll show you more.

Scaffolding is set up here in the bedroom so they can
reach the high gable walls. In the doorway into the
master bath is a make-shift table with cement piled
high. The workers are taking a quick lunch break so
the rooms aren't buzzing with activity like they have
been all day. This it hard work. The cement is heavy
and smearing it on the wall over your head takes strength
and coordination. |

I lost Pat for a few minutes but caught up with
her in the garage where she had decided to do
some serious work.

Steven and Evan are doing
serious work building the stairs to the entry. We need
a safe pathway to the house for the GreenBuilt Tour
this weekend, and the stairs must meet code, so they
are using the transit and the level to make sure they're
built correctly.
Yep, "Guess who" wandered up to build a few
steps too. Nice toes.
