We decided to begin the final grading a little early
so the house would look nice for the GreenBuilt tour
April 26-7,03. A very careful driver brought a large
dirt mover to begin the job.
|
Jon + Steven used the transit to determine the final
grade. It needs to slope away from the home. Once the
grade was determined, they pounded stakes as guides
for the grader.
|
The dozer wasn't the only earth moving machine. A
bobcat came in the following day for a couple hours
to do some of the finer work since it's a lot smaller. Then
Jon Steven and Evan got out there with shovels to
do the final grading by hand. They spent most of the
day shoveling in the sun, but it sure looked nice
when they finished.
|
Steven put some finishing touches on
the porch trim. The only outside wood that will need
to be maintained are the porch posts. We decided the
work was worth it to have wooden posts instead of
metal or concrete.
|
We put up rope to guide our visitors and cleaned up
the parking area. A pallet of flagstone is waiting to
become our entry steps and walkway.
|
The day of the tour has arrived and a docent was provided
to take tickets and welcome our visitors.
|
We set up tables and provided brochures and information
about the various products we have chosen.
The American Clay natural clay plaster was a real hit and people enjoyed
seeing it being applied to the walls as they toured
the home.
