What an exciting phase...the final one! Finishing touches
are being put on our new little house. Appliances are
in and working, cabinets and vanities are completed
and plumbing and electrical fixtures are in. There's
very little left to do other than the cleaning.
|
We selected our appliances using energy efficiency
as the #1 criterion. This is our Fisher Paykel dish
drawer. We chose it because it's smaller and uses less
water and power than other models. It's also mounted
just below the counter which is more ergonomic. The
dish drawer is about 3/4 of the size of a standard dish
washer and allows for a cabinet drawer below. It's also
very quiet.
|
We opted for standard white appliances to keep things
simple. See our materials section for specifics on the
appliances.

Evan
has taken over for Steven (who has moved to Germany)
with great energy and gusto! Here he is checking the
wiring for the entertainment system.
Our built-in entertainment center was custom designed
and built by The Woodshop along with our cabinets. It's
alder. Evan is sitting where the TV will go. The cabinets
above are for the stereo. Below are 2 cd drawers and
below that is a temporary panel that will be replaced
with another perforated panel covering the bass speaker.
Notice the small surround sound speakers above the cabinet.

Here's
a view from the dining area toward the front door. The
ceiling fan will help destratify and move air. We've
installed our old front door that The Woodshop built
for us 20 years ago. The bright spot of light above
the door is coming from the skylight above.

From Jon's office you can see down the hall into the
master bedroom. Shelves on the left will hold models.
This is where Jon will meet with our clients.
|
It's difficult to photograph these smaller rooms, but
here's an attempt at the hall bath. Because the walls
are uneven with plaster, we had the mirror company scribe
the mirror to the wall. The sink has a built in soap
dispenser, saving space on the counter.
This bathroom is unconventional in that it has a French
door to transfer the south light from the hall into
the north facing bathroom. We are covering the glass
with hand made paper for privacy, while letting in light.
|
A view into Jon's office from the hall shows the south
windows and the hall bathroom door. The far door leads
to the garage.
|
Speaking of halls, here's a view toward the living
room. The built-in shelves will store many books lit
by west windows. On down the hall is the entry with
half wall, then past that is the living room and entertainment
center.
